Retail Training and Development Manager

Working closely with the regional Head of Sales, the Retail Training and Development Manager will elevate the capabilities of the the Regional Sales Managers, ensuring they are performing to the optimum level in line with Jellycat expectations. The Retail Training and Development Manager is responsible for developing education content, processes, and best practices to ensure all the RSMs are aligned. You will ensure new team members are equipped to deliver best practices through all our partners, focusing on elevating our brand position, creating brand ambassadors and delivering exceptional customer experience.
You'll be:
Strategic Content Development and Delivery
- Collaborating with the Head of US Sales and Sales leadership team to design and deliver compelling, customized sales and education training materials that address core business needs and company goals.
- Researching, proposing, and designing training sessions to help onboard new employees and upskill existing employees.
- Working collaboratively with key departments to support e.g. Sales, HR and Marketing, taking responsibility of new projects assigned if required.
- Developing and implementing tailored training to enhance individual and team performance.
- Developing and delivering the new hire induction and onboarding program.
- Developing and supporting in-store brand ambassador program.
- Updating and refreshing training materials regularly to reflect changes in products, services, brand positioning, and merchandising.
- Able to produce content and deliver effective training in person/remotely.
- Working with the People Team and sales leadership for onboarding and ongoing development of new hires.
Training and Coaching
- Delivering in-person and virtual training sessions on sales techniques, product knowledge, brand, merchandising, and customer service skills.
- Supporting the Head of Sales with core competency development of the field sales team’s management skills, including negotiation, effective communication, overcoming resistance, change management, and personal impact.
- Serving as a resource for sales teams by providing continuous guidance and support.
- Supporting Head of Sales with onboarding.
Performance Assessment
- Collaborating with Head of Sales and the US sales leadership team to monitor individual and team sales and management performance, providing feedback as needed.
- Working cross-functionally throughout the business to ensure best practices are implemented and knowledge is shared.
- Conducting assessments to identify areas for improvement in selling strategies and customer satisfaction.
- Able to produce reports/data to measure success/development needs.
- Providing input on market trends, best practices, and customers need to help shape sales approaches and product offerings.
Working in the Field
- Traveling extensively, approximately 75%, throughout the US and Canada with attendance in priority head office strategy meetings.
- Travels to on-board new RSMs on product knowledge, brand, merchandising, and end-customer service skills & CORE COPETENCIES in support of the HOS
- Traveling across assigned regions to conduct face-to-face training and coaching sessions with regional sales teams.
- Accompanying Regional Sales Managers on customer calls or visits to support image and key account partnerships and events.
- Ensuring the team is compliant with company policies and health and safety best practices as remote employees.
Reporting & Metrics
- Tracking and reporting on training outcomes, including improvements in sales figures, conversion rates, customer satisfaction, and brand standards.
- Analyzing data to demonstrate the impact of training programs on overall sales performance.
- Providing feedback on the successes and challenges of training and supporting the new field sales team.
You'll have:
- 5-8 years of experience in luxury retail sales leadership.
- 3-5 years of experience in learning and development and instructional design, preferably for field sales or similar customer-facing roles.
- Demonstrated success in achieving sales targets and building strong customer relationships.
- Knowledge of learning principles and effective training techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of brand and merchandising guidelines.
- The ability to motivate and inspire.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Analytical skills to evaluate performance data and training impact.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable to various team dynamics and challenges.
- The ability to travel extensively within the U.S.
- Attendance and participation in monthly RSM meetings.
- A valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Familiarity with the Jellycat digital sales tools, CRM systems, marketing & image banks/tools, MarketTime, and SAP (full training will be given).
This role would appeal to someone with a strong background in sales, a passion for coaching, and a willingness to be on the road frequently, helping the team succeed in real-world selling environments.
