Jellycat is a privately owned design-led, gift brand headquartered in London. We create innovative luxurious products in the soft toy, accessory, baby and book categories that are loved around the world. We have an established and growing global customer base and we work with our partners to maximize the potential and reach of Jellycat throughout, sharing joy as we go!
As we continue to grow throughout North America, we continue to develop and improve the presence and awareness of our brand.
This experienced specialist is responsible for implementing, maintaining and improving US product compliance processes within Jellycat's global compliance framework for imported toys and maternity products from overseas factories for the Jellycat brand. This position focuses on proactive risk prevention, complex compliance issue resolution, and process optimization, rather than routine administrative or document-filling work.
You will lead cross-functional and external collaboration to proactively identify and mitigate product compliance risks, supporting appropriate escalation and corrective action, and supporting a stable and sustainable import business operation.
You'll be:
End-to-End Cross-Functional Compliance Management:
Working closely with Design, Supply Chain, Quality, Product and US Commercial teams throughout the product lifecycle, embedding US compliance requirements at the early development stage and ensuring they are clearly communicated and implemented across testing, production and labelling.
Driving the closed-loop rectification of non-compliance issues, working with relevant teams and suppliers to ensure corrective actions are completed and compliance requirements are met before production, import and product launch.
Ensuring key US compliance requirements are incorporated into product development and launch processes, including product safety testing, certification, labelling, state-specific requirements, registrations and applicable warnings.
Material & Product Safety Compliance Audit:
Conducting product safety audits in line with applicable US requirements and ensuring products meet applicable CPSC, CPSIA, ASTM and other mandatory US and Canadian product safety requirements.
Maintaining oversight of restricted substances, including lead, phthalates, PFAS and other applicable federal and state chemical restrictions, and ensuring products meet relevant market access and child safety requirements.
Monitoring and responding to saferproducts.com and Health Cananda reports.
State Compliance, Regulatory Update & Registration Management
Continuously monitoring updates to US federal and state toy, maternity, textile, chemical and consumer product laws, sampling regulations and compliance standards, while maintaining internal compliance specifications, state regulatory matrices and risk lists to proactively identify and address regulatory changes and potential compliance gaps.
Overseeing applicable state-specific registrations, licenses, law-label requirements and product restrictions, including Pennsylvania stuffed toy registration numbers and other state requirements applicable to Jellycat products.
Maintaining responsibility for monitoring California Proposition 65 requirements, including chemical restrictions, warning requirements and relevant enforcement developments, and ensuring regulatory changes are assessed and incorporated into Jellycat's compliance processes.
Compliance Filing System & Priority Management:
Building and optimizing full-lifecycle, traceable compliance archives and standardized SOPs for testing, certification, import clearance, product registration and regulatory documentation; prioritizing and managing multi-category, high-volume US compliance tasks; overseeing new product compliance approval and existing product reviews; and driving major risk rectification and standard updates to ensure smooth import and product launch schedules.
Maintaining accurate and accessible records for test reports, CPCs, product registrations, state requirements, Proposition 65 assessments, labels, regulatory approvals and other applicable compliance documentation.
You'll have:
Professional Experience
Experience in product compliance, quality compliance or cross-border import compliance within the soft toy, maternity, textile or consumer goods industry.
Proven experience in end-to-end compliance system management for imported consumer goods into the US market.
Professional Competencies
In-depth knowledge of applicable US federal and state requirements for toys, maternity products and textile products, including CPSC, CPSIA, ASTM toy safety requirements, Children's Product Certificates, US customs and import requirements, product labelling, Proposition 65, state chemical restrictions and product registration requirements.
Comprehensive understanding of third-party testing requirements, CPSC compliance, state-specific regulatory requirements and market supervision. Capable of independently auditing complex product labels, reviewing test reports and certification documents, verifying material and chemical safety risks, managing state registration requirements and solving complex US import, product safety and compliance issues.
Core Mindset
Possess systematic thinking and growth mindset. Not limited to routine compliance execution work.
Capable of summarizing compliance problems, optimizing processes and iterating internal standards, with the ability to develop and maintain US-specific compliance standards, documentation and processes in collaboration with the wider Product Compliance team.
Proactively follow federal and state regulatory updates, including changes to product safety, chemical restrictions, Proposition 65, labelling, registration and import requirements, and rapidly complete internal implementation and rectification with forward-looking risk judgment capability.
Comprehensive Capabilities
Experienced in cross-department and cross-overseas team collaboration. Able to coordinate technical compliance matters with external partners and relevant authorities, escalating material issues appropriately.
Excellent in project management, multi-task priority arrangement and problem closed-loop handling, with strong capabilities in risk review, process optimization and experience precipitation.
